Faith in Foxboro 2025?
With all of the dysfunction last year, young upstarts Christian Gonzalez, and Drake Maye showed out. Gonzalez was in my opinion the top corner under age 25. Players such as Tyreek Hill, AJ Brown, and Jamarr Chase were straight ZEROS against this kid. Drake Maye with a rotating door at every single offensive line position except big Mike, managed to put points on the board for the Patriots.
What makes this offseason so huge for the Patriots is they built around those two cornerstones. On the defensive side the Patriots went out and got Carlton Davis who will lock up the secondary weapon, freeing Gonzo to play man and EAT. The revamp on the offensive side was seismic this offseason. New England took the top Left Tackle on the board at number 4, Will Campbell from LSU. While the questions were being stirred up about the measurables with Will Campbell honing in on his arm length, Campbell said it best in his press conference following the combine. "For two years nobody had any measurements on me and nobody said anything about my play, so now all of a sudden an arm length decides if I'm a good player or not, I think its BS" Campbell in the SEC (the NFL's 9th division) had given up only two sacks in 2 years against NFL players today. Note aswell Campbell started as a true freshman, as soon as he was eligible he was on that line contributing for the LSU Tigers.
The Patriots landing Steffon Diggs was the missing piece that they needed for the skill position group. Diggs is that veteran receiver that can teach the young guys about playing Wide Out in the NFL, because the group has looked young and immature for the last few years. If Diggs comes back healthy and engaged, it will open up the field for Demario Douglas, and potentially the steal of the Draft Kyle Williams.
At the end of the day the chips are in place for a competitive year for the Patriots, they addressed their offensive line, they addressed their skill group, they got Milton Williams in the D Line, they have all the pieces. Your going to see year 2 of Drake Maye, now with Josh Mcdaniels at Offensive Coordinator. Year 3 of Christian Gonzalez the break out candidate. Keion White and Christian Barmore... things are all lined up for them to compete in the AFC this year. Mike Vrabel has to keep the ship together and they could do some special things this season, well wait and see to find out.
