Expectations

The president of Snake operations opened his big mouth to the press today, so naturally... I'm here.

Kennedy spoke to the press today the question came up regarding the Red Sox seriousness to compete for World Series championships in 2026 and the years following due to the Sox missing on 3rd baseman Alex Bregman, the quote " if Alex Bregman wanted to be here he ultimately would be here" is the bulletin board material that sparked the return of the Bay State Blogspot. The Red Sox missed on Alex Bregman by north of 10 million dollars, another year, and a no trade clause... The Sox weren't close to the offer the Chicago Cubs made. Sam Kennedy spinning the story on Bregman is vintage, and Red Sox fans, know not to buy in to the noise, from the president.

While I could do a whole post on Sam... I have already done that post... multiple times, the story behind the 2026 Boston Red Sox is not all negative. The Red Sox at the end of the day upgraded this team. So were going to talk about expectations for them heading into 2026.

Boston Red Sox moved Hunter Dobbins to St. Louis for righty 1st basemen Wilson Contreras. Contreras boasted a .257 average on 490 at bats. He had 126 hits and 20 bombs, with the reliability of the glove at the right corner it is a significant upgrade for the club. The rotating of 1st base that has been Dom Smith, Abraham Toro, Nick Sogard, Connor Wong, Triston Casas, Bobby Dalbec and Romy Gonzalez, had to end. The Red Sox treated that position especially on the field, with the least amount of urgency in all the big leagues. So I have to give props to Breslow for finally addressing it. Hopefully with his stable glove and righty bat, Conteras can provide slight protection in the lineup and bring some veteran leadership in the club house.

According to Cora, Abreu is going to be an everyday player for the Sox this year. He has had serious question marks about batting against left handed pitching but its time for him to show that he has made the adjustments to lefties. We're on year 3 of Willyer Abreu, we know he's a gold glove in one of the hardest right fields in the sport. We know he can mash right handed pitching, its time for him to show that he is an everyday ball player, rather then a platoon outfielder.

The young rising star... Roman Anthony, is poised for a destructive season. Before the 22 year old went down with an oblique injury he was not only front running for the Rookie of the year he had MVP voters shook. Anthony before the injury had a .292 average and an OPS of 859. The kid was absolute crushing,  if he can maintain his performance and prepare for the 2nd go around against the big league arms, he is Aaron Judge reincarnate.

Finally in a pivot to losing Alex Bregman the Red Sox acquired Ranger Suarez. the number 2 starter from the Philadelphia Phillies. Suarez boasted a 4.7 WAR a 12-8 Win Loss and a 3.20 ERA. Suarez is an Elite finesse left handed starter who compliments Garret Crochet very well at the front of the Rotation. If the Sox starters stay healthy your lookin at Crochet, Suarez, Sony Gray, Bello, and one of Tolle, Early, or Houck, Sandoval, Crawford, whoever can earn that last spot. The front end is stacked... the depth is stacked,. and now we have to legit left handed starters. The Sox pitching program is elite, if their defense can play the Red Sox should make the playoffs.
You heard it here first... the Boston Red Sox will win 90 games this year...
