Week 1 Pats/Bengals

The NFL season has kicked off with the New England Patriots heading into the Jungle, Paycor Stadium in Cincinnati Ohio. The Patriots started the week as the biggest underdog in the slate of NFL games this week. I am no gambler but to the loyal Foxboro faithful, congratulations on cashing in on a major upset. Yes the New England Patriots coming off a 4-13 season went into Paycor and upset the 2022 AFC Championship winner,
Honestly the absence of Mac Jones under center cannot be understated. Jacoby Brissett is not behind the best offensive line in the league. Most would argue that on paper they are one of if not THE worst unit in the league. Brissett under pressure made some clutch throws. Hanging in the pocket and making some big time throws to players such as Austin Hooper who led the team in receiving guards with 31 yards. Along with Tyquan Thornton and KJ Osborne who went for 27 and 21 yards respectively. The offense undoubtedly has the microscope on it after a historically terrible season last year. Coming away from this week there is optimism leaving Cincinnati for the Patriots offense.
The Patriots defense is the calling card and they held Joe Burrow and the Bengals to 10 points in the contest. Burrow threw for merely 164 yards without a touchdown. Safeties Kyle Dugger and Jabrill Peppers were absolute game wreckers for the Patriots. Peppers had 4 critical tackles Dugger had 3 along with forcing the key fumble on the goal line that took a touchdown off the board for the Bengals and set up the Pats to get their offense back on the field.
The critics are going to say this was the Bengals losing this game that the Patriots really did not do anything to win this contest;. I would argue that Demarcus Covington's defensive scheme took one of the best Quarterbacks in the league out of the game. Paired with one of the best receivers Ja Marr Chase went  for a measly 6 receptions for 62 yards. The Patriots scheme defensively won this game and the offense elimination of turnovers gave them a chance to get it done.
The Patriots come back to Foxboro on September 15th for their next contest against Geno Smith and the Seattle Seahawks. The Sea Hawks come across the country on short rest all the way to the east coast. With a middling level of talent the Patriots are likely not to be overwhelmed by Seattle's offensive scheme. If the offense can eliminate turnovers and penalties the Pats have a real shot of winning the Home opener and by all accounts starting the NFL season 2-0. Time will tell see you next week GO PATS!
