Week 5: Pats/Saints
The 2023 Patriots team is offensive to the Aura of the franchise. The great name of the New England Patriots is being dragged through the mud... This product is simply unacceptable and disrespectful to the fanbase. The team is non competitive and whole sale changes are in high order.
As if it could not get any worse, The New England Patriots fall at home in a must win game to the New Orleans Saints 34-love. The Patriots had a blimp in their schedule where the competition is not the best teams in the entire NFL. The New Orleans Saints in Foxborough, one that you needed. Followed by the Las Vegas Raiders out west next Sunday. This one was killer and one you needed playoff hopes get significantly hurt following the loss to one of the worst teams the Patriots play this season.
It truly looks like Mac Jones is broken, he threw two more picks in this game he's totally afraid out there to make a play. Before he was forcing poor throws and now he is extremely timid under center and it is just brutal to watch. Trent Brown, Vedren Lowe, Mike Onwenu, have been turnstiles for tackles. Receivers reach 0 separation each and every snap, Stevenson has regressed the offense is in shambles it is not NFL Caliber...
Never mind the defense which was supposed to be a top 3 defense this season. They look totally checked out finishing week 5. Your two best players on the team Gonzales and Judon, look to be out for the season. The linebackers and interior defense has been fine, but the secondary is in shambles. With Gonzales hurt, and all of the jones being hurt the Patriots traded for JC Jackson who currently has a warrant for his arrest in the state of Massachusetts's. Jalen Mills, and Myles Bryant are pure traffic cones the team can't stop a pass play for their life now. The Pressure upfront from Judon is gone, the man coverage threat is gone in Gonzales, they are falling apart at the seems. The Defense looks at the offense sees its just as bad if not worse than last year. The defensive players on the New England Patriots have only one goal in mind. Come off the field healthy at the end of the day, there is no point to go all out and win a game, because it won't happen with this offense.
What's really killer about this loss, the Patriots the week before had just suffered the worst loss of the Bill Belichick tenure against Dallas. They should have felt a sense of urgency, there should be a drive to improve following the loss, just the opposite... The Patriots got shut out at home and looked completely dejected.
There are many theories to the reason why the Patriots look checked out finishing week 5, can Bill reach this lockeroom? Are the Players good enough? Are the Coaches good enough? is Bill the guy? is Mac the guy? Where I believe it all stems from is the back and forth struggle with the coach and the quarterback. Belichick has flopped on almost every draft in the last 5 years barring Christian Gonzales, he gets that, Belichick got the best player in the draft at 17. When it comes to offensive players, Cole Strange was a terrible pick, Isaiah Wynn was terrible N'keal Harry, potentially Tyquan Thornton joins this list along with Mac Jones. These are all very highly selected players that just have not panned out and that will kill the roster construction of a team.
The Patriots have one last shot to get out of this mess, they go to Las Vegas to play Josh McDaniels, Jimmy Garoppolo and Jakobi Meyers, this is a must win as it gets. In my eyes this week cost you the season, if they can stay alive next week and pull something out against the Raiders then the is the season salvageable can be entertained. As of now that all it comes down too, is the season salvageable it could be over, stay tuned... kick off is next Sunday at 4:15 in Allegiant Stadium.
