Its all about 18

Mere days after my latest Celtics Blog titled "Jaylen Brown will sign the supermax extension" just that happened. Jaylen Brown is maxed out on a new extension over the next 5 years worth in total of 304 million dollars guaranteed. Yes no question this was going to happen. That is just the way the cap is headed and with such an asset as Brown, who can create, drive, score, shoot and defend, locking him up for the duration of his prime is huge for the Celtics going forward. They took a risk on the kid when they drafted Brown. He was extremely physical and he could jump out of the gym he was a great defender. All of the scoring and creation came much later into his career after years of developing his game. With the strides you see Jaylen make every year there's no question he can make further steps to adjust his game to what is needed for the club.

Jaylen Brown is one of the cornerstones of the franchise he has to develop his game now for the betterment of the Celtics. Last year for Jaylen it was a contract year he had a strict focus on getting his. Going forward now it is time to trust the other pillars of this squad. What Porzingis will bring is unlike anything the Celtics have ever had. They have a legit 5 that can brings a post game, that can space, roll and dunk. This opens up tons of avenues for brown to focus harder on playmaking. Now that he has this big contract more needs to be expected of him. The standard is higher for Brown he needs to be a leader for this team as opposed to being strictly a scoring threat.

In turn if JB can help with playmaking Jayson Tatum can explode on the scene. Jayson Tatum averaged 30.1 points per game, 8.8 rebounds per game and 4.6 assists per game. Last year he was the first player in Celtics history to averaged over 30 points a game and he made the all NBA first team as a forward who was the main facilitator, scorer, rebounder, and defender of the team that made it to a 7th game of the Eastern Conference Finals series against the Miami Heat. Look to see Jayson Tatum make serious noise going into this season in the MVP conversation. He is one of the bright young stars in the game and if he develops further from last year he will be the best player in the conference.

This is where we gear our focus, attaining the MVP is not enough for the city of Boston. Individual accolades are not the goal. Jayson Tatum winning all star MVP, it does nothing for me, winning league MVP nice but not enough, first team all NBA for Tatum and second for Brown good to retain the contracts moving forward but still not enough. It really just comes down to this. Its all about banner 18.
