Red Sox: Through the month of July

The month of July was a critical stretch for the Boston Red Sox, overall the team went 15-7 climbing from a .500 record that really showed all the way to being 7 games above 500. The Baseball club is flawed, at the end of the day, they are a flawed club, they have issues with injuries, shortsop has been a question all year, along wit h depth at starting pitching. The team has definite issues but somehow they always get you to come back and believe in them again. This month in particular has been a breakout. Sweeping the Atlanta Braves taking two of three from the Texas Rangers, 2 of three from the talented New York Mets, sweeping the Toronto Blue Jays,  This Club has shown they can contend with the best of the World Series contenders.

Once the Red Sox get you really excited about what is to come from Fenway, their foot comes right off the gas. The Red Sox will crumble against the teams that are scheduled wins. After the Sox took care of the Cubs they had the Athletics, the Sox lost 2 of 3, a brutal stretch, one of those losses was with Bello who has been your best pitcher all season. Next was the biggest game of the year when the Red Sox came back in a come from behind victory to sweep the Atlanta Braves, the best team in baseball. They would then lose two of three to the San Francisco Giants. Just brutal losses that are what is holding this team off of a wild card berth.

The Boston Red Sox are currently 2 1/2 games back of the 3rd wild card spot. Toronto holds the the last spot, and the Red Sox play massive games coming up this week to keep the competition away. Tonight at 9:40 pm EST the Red Sox play the Seattle Mariners who are right on their tail. The Mariners are 54-51, two games back of Boston for being the top challenger to make the wildcard. It is imperative for the Red Sox to win or sweep the serious and build momentum. The Sox have played the National league teams relatively poorly this year and it has come back to bite them in a big way.

Coming into the deadline teams around the American League have been building up for the Playoffs. The Los Angeles Angles have decided on doubling down on Shohei Ohtani and refused to trade him. They traded for Lucas Giolito and are gearing up for a wildcard push and a playoff run. The Texas Rangers have traded for Max Sherzer, they Rangers are all in on their starting pitching now with Evoldi and Sherzer. I have been saying it on all of my shows, between Bay State Sports Podcast & Bastards of Boston Baseball, twitter and Bay State Sports blog, this team needs an arm in the back of the rotation. If the Red Sox bring in a starting pitcher at the back of the rotation and move Whitlock to the bull pen the team is unbelievable stacked. Look to see if Alex Verdugo is traded for an arm Verdugo is living in trade rumors and the team is filled with lefties. If the team wants to lean harder on Duran and really make a push for the wild card expect to see him moved at the dead=line.
