Jaylen Brown will sign the Supermax Extension
During my camping trip off the grid one of the largest thoughts in the back of my mind was if Jaylen Browns Supermax contract was done. I learned when I returned that Brown and the Celtics negotiations had came to a pause, largely not due to disagreements just do to Jaylen going to vacation in Europe. The reports regarding the extension are that both sides are in agreement on the money its just other perks that could come into play and what Brown qualifies for. For example a no trade clause is not possible but percentage of team cap is higher based on his All NBA selection.
Breaking news on the Bay State Sports Blog... Jaylen Brown was just spotted in Dorchester, Brown took on a new project on Felon Street Dorchester to redesign a new basketball court for the kids of Dorchester. Brown was quoted saying "this is one small example of these things happening in Boston, as long as I'm here these things will continue." Another example of Jaylen Brown keeping connections to the city that drafted him and doing good for the kids in the community. My thoughts are also that now that Smart is gone the city and the kids in the community need that bridge again and that Jaylen Brown recognizes that. Marcus Smart was always thinking about the kids in Boston and always doing all he could to help them. Now that he is gone Jaylen needs to help fill that void.
Jaylen Brown is due for a 304 million dollar extension over the next 5 years. This would make him the highest paid player in NBA history. The moment has arrived for JB and the Celtics. They have dangled his name in trade talks for pretty much every disgruntled super star in the league. Kawhi Leonard in San Antonio, Anthony Davis in New Orleans, Kevin Durant in Brooklyn, and Damian Lillard in Portland. Brown has survived on the roster through all of these trades and went on to make the All NBA second team.
Jaylen Brown is coming off of his best season in the league averaging 26. points on 7 rebounds and 3 assists on 49% shooting from the field and 33% from deep. When Brown has his contract locked up it is reasonable to believe that his numbers will improve. Once a player is secured they can play more freely and do all they can to win a ring and bring a championship to the city. The most important thing I need to see from Jaylen Brown is decision making, dibbling into 4 defenders is not the way to score the ball. This was on full display in the Eastern Conference Finals, trusting the swing offense and using the other elite weapons Kristaps Porzingis and Jayson Tatum are essential for Brown to take the Boston Celtics to promise land and finally secure the long dreaded Banner 18.
