The Emergence of Brayan Bello

The pressure of being the next great pitching prospect to carry the franchise of the Boston Red Sox and the city is enormous. To be the ace that everyone relies on to consistently dominate. Bello is one of those special talents in the future of major league baseball. The 24 year old is tasked now with Chris Sale going down to be the young ace in the rotation. Bello is the next great pitching prospect that have developed through there farm going back to John Lester and Pedro Martinez. The ties back to Pedro are wonderous as well. Bello is heralded as the next great and he has to keep firm to carry this Red Sox defense.

In the 2022 season the rotation had been so depleted through injuries Bello was brought up a year to early and had not been ready to play against the big league hitters. Every at bat, every pitch is its own battle, falling behind in the count can get a hitter to get a pitch they like, and do serious damage. When Bello went into the rotation he had similar control and decent mechanics, as I mentioned in the Bay State Sox recap 6/19 "he's always had the stuff it was just a matter of learning when to use it." This comes with reps in the big leagues and experience in major league.

In terms of the stuff well start with the Fastball, he averages at 95 mph and can essentially place it wherever he likes it. He likes to use it high in the zone to drive contact. Yes Bello forces contact with his high fast ball, this pitch forces ground balls for quick easy outs and keeps his pitch count low in games getting him to pitch deep into most games. Bello has been giving the Red Sox 6 minimum innings and it has helped the bullpen tremendously. Next we can look at the change-up. Bello likes to go low with this pitch and once again he can pick the spots in the zone and just have it drop. This is more of a pitch he uses for swings to miss. The change-up averages 87 mph. Lastly the Slider that he'll tend to go low inside against the batter. Also outside as well though and it is another pitch used to drive up strikeouts.

In the sophomore season Brayan Bello has 4 wins on the year on 11 games played and a whopping 59 innings pitched. He has dropped his ERA down to 3.49 and is set up to be the next great young pitcher in the American League! In his last to starts which were against the New York Yankees Bello feasted on the Yankees going for 7 innings pitched in both games. Along with 3K's in the first and 8K's in the second game, and 2 Runs in the first matchup and 1 in the second. Are we witnessing the emergence of the next Pedro Martinez? We will have to wait and see, if there is one thing we know for sure. There's a storm brewing...
