Red Sox: Through the month of June

If there's one thing we have learned from the 2023 Boston Red Sox through the month of June, its that they are a polarizing group of players. The Red Sox began the season by being one of the greatest offenses in the league. The second highest scoring team in the MLB. Behind only the juggernaut Tampa Bay Rays. Their biggest problem was their starting pitchers, most pitchers could not last You had guys like Kluber, Sale, Pivetta and Crawford, stinking up the joint, along with a couple possibilities in Whitlock and Houck. Bello finally made his debut against the Las Angeles Angles and got crushed on Patriots Day.
Over the course of May and June the starters really turned it around. Chris Sale was electric James Paxton got brought up and had been phenomenal, key guys got moved to the pen and thrived there mainly Pivetta.
The narrative of this team through the month of June is the incompetence of the defense. The polar opposite of the Patriots in the 2022 2023 season. While your starters have been fine some above average in your rotation, the Kike Hernandez at short stop experiment came to a grinding halt after the completed the lead for all MLB players in baseball at a whopping 16 errors in the field. You had the low point of the MLB season with the Connor Wong  throw into center field. Triston Casas pulling the same nonsense last weekend against the Chicago White Sox. The team forces plays instead of getting easy outs the decision making is adding up for them. Before it was all shielded by the dynamic offense that the Red Sox were running, but right now the bats are either on or there off.
Rafael Devers needs to be better, his RBI's are electric hes tied for 3rd with 60 total RBI's but the average, is so low for him he needs to be better. Raffy is hitting 241 on 70 hits and 18 bombs.  The argument regarding protection can definitely be valid. There are good players around Raff, Justin Turner is a good hitter, Duvall can be a decent hitter, Yoshida is an on base machine, there are no great hitters around Devers, pitchers can pitch around him, Bloom is banking on Casas becoming that guy behind Devers to bring series power to the bat, its going to take serious time. There are flashes of him becoming a great player but sometimes he really can just be a bone head that has no idea how dumb he can be sometimes. Going into July this really is the last stretch before the trade deadline on whether this club can convince Bloom, ownership and the fans if they can contend for a wild card spot and make the playoffs.
