Celtics: Charles Lee and off season preview
Brad Stevens has made his second move to rebuild the decrepit Boston Celtics coaching staff. To go along with Sam Cassel Stevens has brought in Charles Lee. Charles Lee was a summer league NBA player for the San Antonio Spurs. Lee Spent most of his playing days in the euro circuit playing in Belgium and Germany. The coaching experience with Charles Lee is what can make players excited. Lee was an assistant coach for the Atlanta Hawks, Lee then went to Milwaukee and was an assistant to Coach Budenholzer. Following this Lee went to the Las Angeles Lakers and was an assistant to coach Darvin Ham. After this Lee went back to Milwaukee and ascended to lead head coach for the Bucks' Charles Lee was an assistant coach from 2012 when he started with Atlanta and is still going now in Boston 11 years later. This shows Stevens adding to his arsenal of veteran assistant coaches to bridge the gap between the offensive wiz kid Joe Mazzulla and the players desiring veterans on the staff and in the locker room.
Delving into the 2023 off season the the Denver Nuggets are officially the NBA Champions. The Miami heat were in the last two games against the Nuggets but were put away. Back in the first round I can distinctly remember a quote from the Finals MVP when he was playing the Minnesota Timberwolves, "we refuse to give them life"(Jokic 4/25) and with that I knew that this man had one goal on his mind. Sure he was robbed of the regular season MVP from Embiid, sure no one was even looking at Denver, most of ESPN had they're eyes on the Lakers or the Warriors. Jokic had one objective the Larry O'Brien.
All I was thinking was I wish my team had this same killer mentality to just stomp on the throats of the lesser competition that the faced. Throughout the 2023 playoffs the Boston Celtics did just the opposite super star power forward Jayson Tatum mentioned "one thing we need to learn from last year is putting away teams quicker to make it easier on ourselves" It shows maturity and that they are aware of they're issues of playing down to they're competition. It showed throughout the whole regular season the Boston Celtics were only losing to teams under 500. The habits always transfer to the playoffs this is why I preach the importance of the process and the importance of the regular season.
Looking at what potential moves could be for the Boston Celtics, lets start with the obvious. Jaylen Brown is being extended. Brown will get the super max contract any trade involving Jaylen Brown if possible just is not looking likely. If I could make the move the packages are hard to find that make sense for the Celtics to pursue. Personally I think Lamelo Ball is the perfect fit to compliment the likes of Jayson Tatum. I just think about the passing slashing and shooting from both of those players and it would be dynamic. Honestly though the only players really on the market that the Celtics could pursue regarding Brown would be Bradley Beal or Damian Lillard. These massive contracts do not make sense for the Celtics to pursue they add age to your team do not play defense and Jaylen will be just as good as these players next year. My next post I will delve deeper into the off season I have to stretch out all of our information to last the whole off season but I will delve deeper in the future thanks for reading!
