Is Malcolm Brogdon a Distressed Asset?

Image
The former 6th man of the year is operantly disgruntled in the ending of the 2023 off season. Now there is definite reason for Malcolm Brogdon to feel this way. The team was exploring options to move Brogdon in the off season. Their big ticket target was to acquire Washington's Center Kristaps Porzingis a 7'3 center that can space the floor has a handle can dunk and block shots, a.. unicorn according to the New York Knicks fanbase. The trade in question was a 3 team deal that would send Brogdon to the Los Angeles Clippers (who were, and still are in need of a point guard) it would send Marcus Morris, Amir Coffey to the Wizards, Brogdon to the Clippers and Porzingis to the Celtics. The trade fell through so the Celtics had to pivot and they gave Marcus Smart a fan favorite to the Grizzlies in a different deal to get Porzingis to the Celtics. Obviously this infuriated the fans that it should have been Brogdon instead of Marcus Smart the da...

Brad Marchand Named Captain

Image
The Boston Bruins officially named Brad Marchand as the new team captain on September 20th. Marchand has played 14 seasons with the Bruins since the year 2009. Marchand has been a 6 time all star he has scored 319 goals on 715 total points. Marchand was an alternate captain for the past 5 seasons along with being a Stanley Cup Champion in 2011. At the end of the day it Marchand was the next in line to be the Captain of the Boston Bruins.      Brad Marchand is a polarizing player that can't be understated. He is always pestering he is a gritty player. Bruins fans will remember of course his most notorious play of licking Ryan Callahan in 2018. What this does is when they need it most the Bruins need to return to being the scrappy team that they were known for in their history. Teams would always be afraid of the BIG BAD BRUINS and that has been lost over the last few years in my eyes.        The scrappy Bruins of old l...

Week 3: Pats/Jets

Image
On September 24th the New England Patriots picked up their first win of the season. In a dire situation the Patriots kept their season alive and picked up a must win in MetLife Stadium to triumph over the New York Jets. The Story of this game came down to the reception by Pharaoh Brown who took a minor pass from Mac Jones and took it all the way to the house. The Patriots would win this game 15-10 against an offensively starved New York Jets. The Jets have an absolute stacked roster between backs Hall & Cook. Receivers in Wilson and Lazard, to defenders in Williams and Gardener. The Cast of talent is some of the best in the league. The low hanging fruit that it all comes back to is the Quarterback Zach Wilson who is a liability to the teams success.      The sad part of this game was how it was so close... The Patriots simply lack on the offensive end. The only target Mac Jones trusts in a tough spot i...

Week 2: Pats/Fins

Image
Two days ago the New England Patriots completed their week 2 matchup of the 2023 NFL Season with the Miami Dolphins. The Patriots would fall in the contest by a final score of 24-17.  While the score looks like it was a decent fight, it really looked lack luster all night for New England in their second homestand of the season. Once again the Pats could not get off the ground running. Miami knew exactly what they were doing when they differed to NE off the coin toss. This Patriot offense still looks horrible! Totally asleep in the entire first half of the game. The Patriots fell to a 17-3 deficit concluding the first half.     My biggest gripe with the game was the Demario Douglas fumble. Look the kid made a mistake, he lost control of the ball. It was also a spectacular play by Bradley Chubb who is an elite NFL Linebacker. Again on Demario Douglas who was a 6th round pick from Liberty playing his 2nd game in  ...

Business has Bloomed

Image
On September 15th the Boston Red Sox officially announced they were parting ways with Chief of Baseball Operations Chaim Bloom. After a couple days away from the event I am ready to blog on this with a real critical lens. The issue with the hire in the first place was it just looked like a kid that was in over his head. Don't get it twisted, Bloom has good character, and his philosophy has potential and it could work... in the right situation.  The Bloom method of exclusive farm focus can and probably will work in the right market. The Kansas City Royals, Milwaukee Brewers, Miami Marlins, are all examples of small market franchises where a tight budget constraint approach and prospect development is the only way to build a contender with a decade long time frame. Again with KC they were atrocious forever built a contender through the farm contended and won a world series in 2015 and are now in a total rebuild at the...

Week 1: Pats/Eagles

Image
The story coming out of the Week 1 Patriots Eagles, matchup really comes down to this. Can we still hold our heads high that the team looked competitive. Is it a... morale victory Monday? The New England Patriots were down 16-0 in the first quarter and looked completely out of sorts. Mac Jones had been feeling pressure taking hits and even threw a pick. The offensive line was fighting an uphill battle against a tremendous Eagle pass rush. The first quarter was all Philly all day it wasn't until the 2nd quarter did Mac Jones and the offense came alive.     The 2nd quarter Mac Jones really began to sling. His favorite target Tight End Hunter Henry had 5 receptions in clutch spots scoring a TD for the Pats and gaining 56 yards for the club. Wide receiver Kendrick Bourne had a huge showing after the intended pass turned to interception in the 1st quarter to star cornerback Darius Slay.  Bourne would s...

The Rookie of the Year Debate

Image
The 2023 Rookie of the Year conversation had been a non story for the majority of year, It started and stopped with Gunnar Henderson. There were some young players that could bring a specific niche to bring some talking points for debate. Being Josh Jung an electric 3rd baseman when the Rangers were really stomping through the AL West. Jung had 117 hits and an OPS of 812 really good numbers and the team had looked like a potential favorite to win the division and contend for the American League. Another name that was in the mix was Tanner Bibee out of Cleveland. The Guardians have a bright young arm bolstering a 3.05 ERA a WHIP of 1.23 and a 10-3 record. Stellar stuff out of the young arm.  In what looks like one of the weakest divisions of Baseball if Cleveland could get over the hump and begin to put pressure on Minnesota there's a world where Bibee can climb back into the race.       Masataka Yoshida out of the B...

Patriots QB Carrousel

Image
On August 31st, was when the Roster Cuts came out for the New England Patriots. 4th round sophomore Bailey Zappe had been cut from the roster which was a surprise to all of Zappe fever fandom following the 2022 season, where Bailey came in and won games for the New England Patriots. I was at the 2nd patriots Training camp practice outside of Gillette Stadium and watched the two Quarterbacks get reps between Mac Jones running with the 1s and Bailey Zappe running with the 2's. In his reps Bailey Zappe looked out of sorts going against the 2nd string defense, throwing incomplete passes and picks. Zappe came in last season on October 22nd against the Greenbay Packers and would play 4 games, going 2-2 winning games against the Cleveland Browns and Detroit Lions. Bailey Zappe through for 781 yards 5 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. Zappe in the Matt Patricia Joe Judge offense thrived and was out performing the likes of Mac Jones stirring up quite ...
